Florida’s sandy dirt is tough to enrich. Still, these tips will help you on the way to improving soil quality so you can grow your garden and plants successfully!

  1. Organic Matter – Adding organic matter is a quick and efficient way to improve soil quality. Healthy examples of organic matter include compost, bark mulch, peat moss, sawdust, grass, and straw. Starting to compost can be easy by saving scraps from your meal prep in a can. Read the guide How to Compost in Florida
  2. Test & Adjust – A simple soil test will tell you what nutrients your soil lacks. Once you have this information you can add the missing components to enrich your soil.
  3. Cover with Mulch – Not only will this add organic materials to your soil as it breaks down, it keeps weeds at a minimum.
